Plant reasoning
The 5 plants we chose to plant are cabbage, cucumber, strawberry, basil, and green onion. We plan to grow around 2 or 3 cabbages to use as a some sort of salad in the future. The rest of the plants are smaller, so we gave more space to the cabbage which is our biggest plant. We planted cucumber because it is considered easy to grow and is good with lots of sunlight, which is very fitting as the weather is always pretty warm. As the rest of our plants are vegetables, we thought it would be nice to have a fruit, so we chose strawberries. We decided to plant basil because we thought we should have some type of herb and it is one of the easier plants to grow. We planted green onion because it will most likely be the first plant to grow and it is the most versatile plant that can be used in many dishes.
We chose to put each plant in a specific place based on plant size and the conditions they must be in. For example, we put strawberries, green onion, and basil together because their plants remain relatively small, giving them enough room for growth. Hence, we put cabbage and cucumber in the larger area of out plot because the both grow underground, making them difficult to see. Therefore, we must leave them much room because it is harder to monitor their growth. For example, cabbage heads are very leafy and large, but it is almost impossible to determine their size underground. Furthermore, we strategically placed certain vegetables near each other because they possess unique characteristics that benefit one another. For example, cucumbers are known to clean fruit, so we planted the cucumber next to the strawberries to ensure foolproof care for our plants.
